Deliveries are scheduled to start by the second quarter of 2025. A Dubai-based start-up company is offering to produce electric vehicles (EVs) made from repurposed cars at prices 50% less than newly manufactured EVs. The starting price of an EV is Dh70,000.
A prototype of ReCar.03, an electric vehicle (EV) sedan that was formerly a gasoline-powered Toyota Camry, is on display at the five-day Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress and Exhibition being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The vehicle was designed and engineered by Peec Mobility.
Our most recent version of the ReCar has been in development for a while. Zach Faizal, the founder of Peec Mobility, who was born in the United Arab Emirates, said, “We’re close to production with orders due to be delivered in Q2 2025. This is a big step in the future of mobility.
ReCar is constructed from a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, either petrol or diesel. Because the technology used to repurpose retired petrol vehicles requires keeping their body and chassis before transforming them into electric vehicles, it is less expensive than a newly-manufactured EV, which can cost upwards of Dh100,000. Compared to new versions, this results in an 80% reduction in manufacturing time and a 30% reduction in manufacturing costs.
