Following requests from Tehran and other unidentified Middle Eastern nations to delay strikes because the “perimeters of a deal” have been reached, US President Donald Trump has said that he is abandoning a fresh attack on Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “This would include the immediate, complete, and total opening of the Hormuz Strait and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”
He cautioned that US military were still “locked and loaded and ready to go,” but he had held off strikes subject to “rapidly” reaching an agreement. Later, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, anonymous Iranian military sources denied Trump’s assertion that Tehran had asked the US to halt the strike, calling it a “new lie” intended to “blackmail Persian Gulf rulers.”
Iranian soldiers, they added, were “at the highest level of readiness,” and “if a confrontation becomes inevitable, the battlefield will be decisive.” The US State Department warned Americans in the Middle East to remain vigilant due to possible escalation in the area, which prompted Trump’s declaration.
