In a meeting with his counterparts from the alliance today in Washington, President Joe Biden underlined NATO’s dedication to sustaining a long-lasting barrier against aggression and strengthening transatlantic deterrence.
The president stated that allies’ ongoing investments have contributed to NATO’s strength, with the United States investing to double the number of battle groups on the alliance’s eastern flank in recent years.
He also mentioned that 23 NATO allies, or more than twice as many as those who met the threshold as recently as 2021, currently spend at least 2% of GDP on defence. Under the NATO shield, our nations have grown and prospered for 75 years,” stated Biden. “Today, we’re stronger than we’ve ever been.”
During the three-day NATO Summit in Washington, the leaders decided on further measures to reinforce NATO’s power by making significant investments in the alliance’s defense industrial base.
Among these investments is a commitment to coordinate national plans to strengthen industrial capacity and increase defence industry production. Every NATO country is committing to creating plans for domestic defense production for the first time ever, according to Biden. “That means the alliance will become more innovative and competitive.” He asserted that while Russia carries on with its war in Ukraine, these investments are essential to preserving deterrence.
