For professional negligence, several relatives of those killed in a Jeju Air jet disaster in December have filed a criminal complaint against 15 individuals, including the CEO of the airline and the transport minister of South Korea.
The tragedy, which claimed the lives of 179 of the 181 persons on board and was the worst plane crash to ever occur in South Korea, has prompted the 72 grieving relatives to demand a more comprehensive probe.
They claim that the collision was a “major civic disaster caused by negligent management of preventable risks” rather than “just a simple accident.” Authorities are still investigating the possible cause of the plane’s crash-land at Muan International Airport and subsequent fire over five months later.
Before this most recent accusation, the authorities had already launched a criminal investigation and prohibited Kim E-bae, the CEO of Jeju Air, from leaving the nation; however, no one has been charged in connection with the event. Kim Da-hye, one of the relatives, criticised the “lack of progress” in the investigations.
We are overcome with intense rage and hopelessness. “We will not give up and will continue to pursue the truth after taking this extraordinary step of filing a criminal complaint,” Mr. Kim told the journalists.
