In a speech advocating for deeper cross-sectoral links between the two nations, US Vice-President JD Vance stated that India and the US must effectively collaborate for a “prosperous and peaceful” 21st century.
Speaking at a program in the western Indian city of Jaipur, Vance is now on a four-day trip to the country. However, I also think that the 21st century may be a really bleak period for mankind as a whole if we are unable to cooperate effectively,” he continued.
A day after meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the vice president made these comments. Both nations reported that they had made headway in their negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement, which Delhi believes will save it from increased tariffs.
During President Donald Trump’s 90-day moratorium on increasing tariffs, which expires on July 9, several nations are scrambling to negotiate trade agreements with the US, including India.
Before the announcement of the suspension, India was expected to be subject to 27% US duties. Since then, Washington and Delhi have been working to finalise trade talks as soon as possible.
Vance said that the two nations had agreed on the terms of reference for the talks during his speech in Jaipur. Since it lays out a plan for a final agreement between our countries, this is an essential step in achieving President Trump and Prime Minister Modi’s agenda,” Vance stated.
