51 People are Killed in Bangladesh Due to Flash Floods and Heavy Rainfall

In recent days, Bangladesh’s torrential rains has harmed over a million people and killed at least 51. Flash floods and landslides have devastated much of the nation, including the capital city of Dhaka, causing thousands of people to lose their homes. Cox’s Bazar, which has a sizable Rohingya refugee community, has seen more than half of the deaths to date. When floodwaters surged through the district’s school last week, a teacher and many pupils perished.

Bangladesh is a low-lying nation with several rivers. During its yearly monsoon season, it frequently experiences heavy rain and flooding. However, experts caution that rainfall has increased in frequency and intensity due to climate change. Authorities issued warnings about floods and landslides, evacuated people in high-risk locations, and postponed student exams as the heavy rain, which started more than a week ago, got worse in recent days.

There are currently thousands of people residing in government shelters. As of Sunday, authorities reported that the rain had impacted over a million people. Cox’s Bazar has accounted for 28 of the 51 deaths that have been documented thus far. Over a million Rohingya, who make up the largest refugee community in the world, live in the region.
