A day after the two nations reached a framework agreement to reduce tensions along their border, Israel launched an attack in southern Lebanon. Without giving specifics, the Israel Defense personnel (IDF) claimed to have carried out the drone strike on a person who presented a threat to its personnel. The attack occurred in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, according to Lebanon’s official news agency.
The head of the militant Hezbollah organization in Lebanon, which was not part in the negotiations, denounced Friday’s agreement mediated by the United States and charged that the Beirut government was compromising Lebanon’s sovereignty shortly after the strike.
On March 2, Iran-backed Hezbollah launched missiles into Israel in revenge for an Israeli assault that killed Iran’s top leader, drawing Lebanon into the conflict.In response, Israel launched a land invasion in the south and an air assault throughout Lebanon.
Israel will remove its troops from the South Litani region in accordance with the four-point agreement reached in Washington on Friday, and the Lebanese army will assume sole control of the area.
