India has responded forcefully to the April 22 terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, by enacting a number of strong diplomatic steps to hold Pakistan responsible for its involvement in cross-border terrorism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday night, when they examined the incident’s ramifications. The attack killed 25 Indians and one Nepali, while numerous others were injured.
The act was strongly condemned by the CCS, which also sent its sympathies to the victims’ families and wished the injured people a speedy recovery. According to authorities, Pakistan-backed terrorist organisations were responsible for the attack, which targeted visitors in a well-known location. Governments throughout the world have also strongly expressed their support for India, denouncing the assault and restating their commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism.
The incident happened against the backdrop of Jammu and Kashmir’s successful elections and the region’s continuous progress towards stability and economic growth, the summit further highlighted. According to India, terrorist groups attempting to destabilise the area consider these accomplishments as a danger.
The CCS took the following extraordinary actions in recognition of the gravity of this incident and its cross-border connections:
INDUS WATERS TREATY SUSPENDED
CLOSURE OF ATTARI INTEGRATED CHECK POST
CANCELLATION OF SAARC VISA EXEMPTION SCHEME FOR PAKISTANI NATIONALS
PERSONA NON GRATA DECLARATION FOR PAKISTANI DIPLOMATS
