Israel Bombs Southern Lebanon, But the Fragile Truce with Hezbollah Looks to Hold

On Tuesday, Israel resumed its attacks in southern Lebanon but did not hit Beirut following a temporary cease-fire agreement with the Iran-backed armed organization Hezbollah.

Lebanon stated that under an agreement made late Monday by US President Donald Trump, Israeli forces would not strike the capital in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from striking Israel. It came after Iran said Israeli involvement in Lebanon jeopardised efforts to settle its war with the US.

Following the cease-fire statement, the Israeli military stated that it had intercepted two rockets fired into northern Israel. Hezbollah claimed to have struck Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, where officials confirmed fatal Israeli attacks.

The Lebanese health ministry reportedly reported that four persons were killed and 127 injured after Israeli air raids damaged structures near the Jabal Amel hospital in Tyre on Monday afternoon. Thirty-nine hospital staff members were injured, with four in critical condition.
What remained outside the hospital on Tuesday was complete wreckage.

Concrete and twisted metal were scattered throughout the region. The beeping of wrecked cars and the crackle of felled electrical wires resonated through streets that were otherwise dead silent.
