In honor of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s state visit to the United States, Donald Trump has declared that all tariffs and restrictions on whisky imports will be lifted. The president of the United States declared that he would remove limitations on Scotland’s cooperation with Kentucky on bourbon and whisky. This holds true for all whisky duties, including those on Irish whiskey, according to the UK government. Distillers will be allowed to “breathe a little easier during a period of significant pressure on the sector,” according to industry officials.
The Royal visit “got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking,” according to Trump. Before departing on Thursday, the King and Queen traveled to Washington, DC, New York, and Virginia on their four-day state visit, which was organized by Trump. A Buckingham Palace official said the King “will be raising a dram to the President’s thoughtfulness” and expressed his “sincere gratitude” to Trump in response to the announcement. John Swinney, the first minister of Scotland, described it as “tremendous news for Scotland” and expressed gratitude to the King for his important contribution. Swinney also stated: “Millions of pounds were being lost every month from the Scottish economy.”
