French police are hunting a suspect after a parcel bomb exploded at a private building in Monaco, injuring wealthy Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaiev and two others.
Two of the injured are in a severe condition in hospital in the French city of Nice, Monaco public prosecutor Stéphane Thibault told AFP, adding that a woman was the most gravely hurt.
He said police were seeking one man and the event on Monday evening was being regarded as attempted murder, not as a terrorist act. Ukraine’s foreign ministry said its embassy in France was in contact with authorities in Monaco and working to officially identify those allegedly injured in the bomb.
The incident happened just before 9 pm (7 pm GMT) in an apartment building on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, not far from the French border. Monaco’s government said the blast was caused by a parcel bomb, and its head Christophe Mirmand told AFP news agency the explosive device looked to contain bolts and pellets. Thibault said four other persons had been treated by emergency services – one for shock and three for cuts from rubble from nearby shop windows after the incident.
