His Majesty The UAE’s vice president, prime minister, and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, congratulated Jordanian professor Omar Yaghi on his victory in the Great Arab Minds award for the Natural Sciences category on Monday.
“We are pleased to announce that the Jordanian Professor Omar Yaghi has won the Arab Genius Minds award in the Natural Sciences category for 2024,” Sheikh Mohammed wrote in a tweet on the X platform.
“Omar Yaghi, a chemistry professor at the University of California, Berkeley, has made outstanding contributions to the field of reticular chemistry,” His Highness said. His inventions have produced ground-breaking applications that tackle environmental, water, and energy issues.
“We congratulate Professor Omar on this important scientific achievement and assert that our region has a wealth of intellectual resources capable of making substantial contributions to human knowledge in numerous domains,” Sheikh Mohammed continued.
Professor Omar Yaghi has been recognized for his innovative contributions to chemistry with the 2024 Great Arab Minds Award in Natural Sciences. Reticular chemistry, a cutting-edge discipline devoted to forming strong interactions between molecular building blocks to form open frameworks, is advanced by Yaghi’s groundbreaking work. Advanced materials such as Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) have been developed due to his research.
