US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Saturday that US President Donald Trump has not decided whether to launch further strikes against Iran in the midst of delayed peace negotiations. At a press conference in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was hosting G20 foreign ministers for a two-day meeting, Rubio stated, “We can achieve military objectives if we seek to.
However, Rubio stated that Trump “hasn’t made a decision” regarding more military action, despite rumours that the US president may launch an assault following Tuesday’s crucial midterm elections. Rubio stated that Trump would prefer a diplomatic option to stop the war with Iran, even as he denounced Tehran for “actively and openly” attacking commercial vessels. However, he did not promise a timeframe for negotiations. Other than to say that we would be open to a diplomatic solution, I won’t describe the state of those negotiations or provide a timeline,” Rubio stated.
Following threats to restart strikes following important elections, Iran’s supreme leader on Saturday cautioned Israel and the United States from carrying out additional assaults. Trump had previously expressed concern about the possibility of additional military action following the US midterm elections, stating that he was considering whether to “finish them off.
