According to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the emirate welcomed over 1.5 million visitors in 2023, and hotel guest numbers increased strongly by 11%. A notable increase in visitors from a variety of regions, led by Russia and the Baltics (36% growth), the GCC countries (17% growth), Australia and the Pacific (15% growth), and other regions, further highlighted the sector’s sustainable growth.
These most recent developments, which further cement the emirate’s position as a major international tourism hub, were revealed at a press conference hosted by SCTDA during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM 2024) in Dubai. Twenty-seven public and private sector organizations were present at the Sharjah Pavilion, highlighting the newest sustainable tourism attractions and the emirate’s all-encompassing approach to tourism development.
As a result of its vast hospitality infrastructure, which includes more than 100 hotel establishments offering more than 10,000 rooms, Sharjah continues to draw an increasing number of Arab and foreign visitors, according to the SCTDA. As the emirate launches more top-notch tourism initiatives, this capacity will rise, guaranteeing that it will be ready to handle expected rises in hotel visitors.
The authority’s data shows a notable increase in hotel visitors from the GCC (apart from the UAE) in 2023, with nearly 250,000 guests, a 17% rise from 211,000 guests the year before. Oman and Saudi Arabia accounted for most of the Gulf visitors, with approximately 140,000 and 75,000 hotel guests, respectively. This indicates the growing cultural and economic ties between Sharjah and its neighboring countries.
