In a “Significant Restructuring, Microsoft Reduces Xbox and Eliminates 4,800 Workers

Microsoft has revealed that it has laid off 4,800 employees, or around 2.1% of its total staff, with Xbox bearing a significant portion of these losses. Microsoft’s senior vice president, Amy Coleman, informed staff members in a memo that the company must concentrate on areas that will satisfy customers in the face of a “fast-changing industry”.
Over 1,600 positions at Xbox will be instantly eliminated as a result of the massive layoffs.

In a statement to employees, Asha Sharma, who recently become Xbox’s CEO, stated that the company was starting the biggest reorganization in its history. In the message posted on X, Sharma predicted that 1,600 more jobs would be lost in the upcoming year.

She also mentioned that the adjustments would include the spin-off of four Xbox game production studios: Compulsion Games, Double Fine Productions, Ninja Theory, and Undead Lab. Sharma stated, “These changes are about a bigger future for Xbox, not a smaller one.” There are many businesses in history that confuse longevity with inevitability. We refuse to be among them.
