Several high-ranking former officials, including Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, his lost Democratic opponents in the last election, have had their security clearances revoked by US President Donald Trump.
The action follows Trump’s announcement in February that he was revoke his predecessor Joe Biden’s security clearance. In the most recent announcement, he affirmed that action and stated that he was also removing “any other member” of the Biden family’s security clearance.
According to Trump’s memo, “I have concluded that the following individuals’ access to classified information is no longer in the national interest.” As a courtesy, former US presidents and high-ranking security officers typically retain their security clearance.
Those who lost their security clearances included former Republican congressmen Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Fiona Hill, a longtime adviser on Russian issues in the first Trump administration.
The other names were Alexander Vindman, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Jake Sullivan, Andrew Weissmann, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, and Alvin Bragg.
Without offering proof, Trump had previously revoked the security clearances of around forty former intelligence officers whom he said had influenced the 2020 race in favor of Biden.
Biden, who was president in 2021, denied his defeated opponent Trump access to intelligence briefings because of his “erratic behavior.
