On January 7, the Ministry of Interior announced a partial suspension of the restriction on individual drone use, which delighted photography enthusiasts around the country. The prohibition, which was imposed in 2022, has been gradually eased since November 2023.
However, the relaxed restrictions do not apply to Dubai, according to the emirate’s authorities. The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has reiterated that recreational drone use in the city is still prohibited until further notice”. The aviation authority also stated on Tuesday that drones should be outfitted with a remote identification system, and that the app must be used during operation.
Those wishing to fly a drone must also receive a training certificate from a GCAA-accredited centre. They should also request a product status statement from the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and follow all of the guidelines provided in the UAE Drones app.
