As the UAE prepares to implement a mandated health insurance program for all employees, residents of Sharjah and the Northern Emirates will pay cheaper health insurance premiums.
Industry insiders point out that these areas will have cheaper healthcare costs, which will significantly relieve employers’ and inhabitants’ financial burdens.
At the Thumbay Healthcare-hosted Insurance Meet 2024, Shanawani stated, “With just three months to go, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates are poised to introduce affordable basic medical insurance, mirroring Dubai’s model, while aiming to reduce employers’ costs.”
Along with government regulators from the Dubai Healthcare Authority, representatives from both domestic and foreign insurance businesses attended the event, which also acted as a springboard for crucial training for the country’s upcoming required health insurance program.
The UAE will put out an obligatory health insurance program for private sector employees and domestic workers, commencing January 1, 2025. The plan attempts to offer reasonably priced healthcare for those without access to employer-sponsored insurance. The goal of the program is to keep rates less than those in Dubai so as not to put further financial strain on companies. “Medical insurance can be quite expensive, and higher costs could negatively impact the business environment in the region,” said Shanawani.
