Seven People Were Murdered in a Carnival Automobile Crash, and a Belgian Driver was Found Guilty of Murder

On Friday, a Belgian driver was found guilty of killing seven people by driving his car into a funfair procession while filming himself behind the wheel. Next week, Paolo Falzone, 38, will be jailed for the deadly collision that occurred in the southern hamlet of La Louvière in March 2022. He might spend up to 30 years behind bars.

Falzone, who had a history of speeding and drunk driving, drove his BMW through a 50-kilometer zone on the outskirts of the town at 170 kilometers per hour, according to the prosecution.

They claimed that he was unaware that people dressed for a typical carnival parade had gathered in the street as he drove home from a nightclub before dawn on a Sunday. Emergency personnel treated about 40 injured people dispersed over several hundred meters, while six people died instantaneously. Later, another victim passed away.

Falzone stated at his trial that he was sorry for what he had done and that he didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I’ll be honest: I used to record myself speeding. “I did it a lot,” he remarked. “I behaved like a complete idiot.
