India has responded forcefully to the April 22 terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, by enacting a number of strong diplomatic steps to hold Pakistan responsible for its involvement in cross-border terrorism.
On Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which discussed the implications of the incident. Twenty-five Indians and one Nepali were murdered in the attack, while many more were injured.
The CCS strongly denounced the conduct, expressed sympathy to the relatives of the victims, and wished the injured a swift recovery. Authorities said the incident, which targeted tourists in a popular spot, was carried out by terrorist groups supported by Pakistan. In addition, governments from all across the globe have firmly stated their support for India, condemned the attack, and reaffirmed their commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism.
The incident happened against the backdrop of Jammu and Kashmir’s successful elections and the region’s continuous progress towards stability and economic growth, the summit further highlighted.
