According to persons familiar with the situation, the Wall Street Journal said Thursday that US federal investigators are looking into a fake attempt to pose as White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. According to the article, Wiles informed colleagues that the impostor had accessed private phone numbers via hacking into some of her mobile contacts.
According to the article, the incident happened on her personal phone rather than her official phone. According to those acquainted with the communications, the Journal stated that a person posing as Wiles called and sent messages to prominent US corporate leaders, senators, governors, and other public figures in recent weeks.
Information security has been a challenge for the White House. According to a new Reuters investigation, a hacker gained access to the messaging account that former Trump national security adviser Mike Waltz used earlier this month, intercepting messages from various American authorities.
Additionally, a White House official stated late last year that the United States thought that “very senior” American political people were the targets of a purportedly extensive Chinese cyber espionage program called Salt Typhoon, which recorded and targeted their phone calls.
