According to Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Meta, the social media behemoth will invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the construction of massive AI data centres in the United States. According to Zuckerberg, Prometheus, the first multi-gigawatt data facility, is anticipated to be live in 2026.
According to him, one of the locations would span an area of 22.8 square miles, or 59.1 square kilometres, about the size of Manhattan. Meta has made significant investments in the development of “superintelligence” technology, which it claims is capable of outthinking even the most intelligent people. The company’s sales in 2024 exceeded $160 billion, with internet advertising accounting for the majority of its earnings.
Zuckerberg said that Meta was constructing many multi-gigawatt clusters and that one of them, named Hyperion, might grow to five gigawatts over a number of years in a post on his social networking site Threads.
We are also constructing many other titan clusters. A large portion of Manhattan’s footprint is covered by just one of them,” he said. According to Zuckerberg, Hyperion will be completed in Louisiana and be completely operational by 2030, while Prometheus will be constructed in New Albany, Ohio.
