Homes and Hotels Were Swept Away, and Four People Were Killed. Uttarakhand is Under a Heavy Rain Alert Today

In the Himalayan town of Dharali in Uttarakhand on Tuesday, a massive cloudburst caused flash floods that ripped down houses, hotels, trees, and automobiles, killing our people and rescuing at least 130 others who were first thought to be stranded or missing.

A major destination on the way to Gangotri, the source of the Ganges, Dharali is home to many lodging options, dining establishments, and homestays. It was seriously impacted, with several structures destroyed and inundated as floodwaters bringing heavy silt and debris rushed across the region.

According to officials, rescue and relief crews battled the weather in the environmentally vulnerable heights to locate the missing and mitigate the afternoon’s damage. Somewhere in the Kheer Ganga river’s catchment basin, a cloudburst caused the catastrophic flash flood.

Dharali was not the only person affected, according to state disaster management secretary Vinod Kumar Suman. On one side of the same hill, the rushing rivers rushed into Dharali, while on the other, toward the settlement of Sukki.
