While searching for a Sydney grandpa who they suspect was accidentally abducted about two weeks ago, Australian police have discovered human remains. Just before dawn on February 13, widower Chris Baghsarian, 85, was seized by force from his North Ryde house. CCTV footage shows a group of masked men squeezing him into an SUV. According to local media, the intended target was a man who had ties to a well-known organized criminal family or his relatives, and police say the incident was most likely a case of mistaken identity. We’re all furious that an innocent individual might be the victim of this,” Det Acting Supt Andrew Marks stated on Tuesday.
“I speak for not only the police but the public in general, we’re outraged… [at] the recklessness of these people.” According to detectives, the next step in their investigation is to identify the remains and figure out how a regular granddad became the victim of a crime that might have been committed against a much younger gang member he didn’t even know.
A dark SUV drew up on a residential street on a calm February morning, with sunrise more than an hour away and the skies still dark. CCTV showed multiple men exiting the vehicle and going into the residence, only to reappear moments later with a struggling man in their arms. Police issue the first of many frantic public pleas for Chris Baghsarian’s safe return about 36 hours after the kidnapping, revealing that he is the man who was taken.
