Concerned viewers reported a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media” on Tuesday, prompting emergency services to be dispatched to his Miami home. A person had been “safely recovered” and transported to “a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention,” the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office informed US media. Licensed mental health specialists and their crisis response team were also “on scene providing support and resources to the individual’s family,” according to the police.
Police confirmed that Hilton, whose actual name is Mario Lavandeira, was at home by himself throughout the live feed. Shortly after, his TikTok account was suspended. The Miami sheriff’s office stated that they had responded to complaints of a man hurting himself, but they did not identify Hilton in a statement given to BBC News.Deputies found the person’s home right away, spoke with family members there, and verified he was by himself inside, according to the police.
Officers made the decision to “tactically disengage while continuing to monitor the situation and providing the needed support to his family” after evaluating the circumstances, according to police.According to their statement, “deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication in many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves.”
