According to the mayor of Kyiv, Russia’s most recent assault on the Ukrainian capital was the first time in several months that vital infrastructure “was purposefully attacked” there. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that overnight attacks on apartment buildings and warehouses throughout the city resulted in at least 17 fatalities. It further stated that around 40 people had been hurt and that a children’s hospital and school had been damaged.
Following the nighttime attacks, Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, issued a warning on Thursday that residents of Desnyansky and a portion of the Dnipro districts would see a disrupted hot water supply. On Telegram, he stated, “Specialists are working to restore the damaged infrastructure.” Klitschko stated that Ukraine still lacks air defence missiles and need “ammunition, anti-missile systems – we need support from our partners” in an interview with BBC News outside a destroyed apartment building in Kyiv.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that “as long as Ukraine does not have enough anti-ballistics, Russia will not seriously think about peace” and that Kyiv depends on Western friends for supplies. “The Patriots need interceptors every day, and they haven’t been replaced yet,” he continued. Our people’s lives are saved by each extra missile.
