Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated that the government believes Iran was involved in the RAF Fairford incident, which resulted in the arrest and subsequent release of five men.”There are strong indications that Iran was involved in what occurred over the weekend at RAF Fairford,” he told the BBC. He did not go into additional depth. Tehran has categorically rejected any involvement.
Burnham’s remarks came after it was revealed that one of the five guys had dialled 999 himself before the group was apprehended. When asked why the suspects had been released on bail, a decision openly questioned by President Donald Trump, the prime minister insisted the men were subject to the “strictest possible bail conditions” and added that UK authorities “have this under the strongest grip and closest control”.
Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump stated: “I will tell you, I would have said, ‘don’t let them have bail.'” I am astonished they released them. “I would not have done that.”
However, Burnham stated: “I think people need to understand that when it says released, it isn’t as people might imagine. “The bail conditions are extremely strict.”I can guarantee you that the authorities are in complete control of this situation.
