The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple’s new high-end flagship smartphones sold alongside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, were unveiled in September 2023. The primary iPhone 15 devices don’t have the increased feature set included in the iPhone 15 Pro models, which includes faster A17 processors, sharper displays, and more sophisticated camera technologies. The iPhone 15 Pro models share a similar style with the iPhone 14 Pro models and are available in the same 6.1 and 6.7-inch capacities, although there are some noticeable modifications.
The Titanium Switch
Apple is switching from stainless steel to a new titanium alloy used in spacecraft. New titanium colours include white, black, natural, and blue. The iPhone 15 Pro models weigh less than the iPhone 14 Pro models because titanium is lighter than stainless steel.
The internal aluminium frame of the titanium, which also has a new matte brush texture, enhances thermal dissipation and the rear glass’s capacity to be repaired. Additionally, Apple changed the design such that the display bezels are significantly thinner and the frame has more rounded edges. Apple’s Ceramic Shield material, which the company claims to be the most durable glass used in a smartphone, continues to protect the front of the iPhone.
The Super Retina Display
Apple’s Super Retina XDR Display in 2017 still features Always-On display technology and a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. The resolution of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 2796×1290, compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 2556×1179 resolution. There are no modifications to the display other than the smaller bezels, and the top Dynamic Island remains.
The lightning Speed Of Charging
The iPhone 15 Pro variants contain a USB-C port with USB 3 transfer speeds up to 10Gb/s in instead of a Lightning port. Because charging has moved to this new standard, you can now charge the iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the same USB-C cable. An iPhone can charge AirPods or an Apple Watch using the USB-C connector. Apple added support for Qi2 wireless charging and offers 15W MagSafe charging.
The Advanced Programs
The mute switch has been replaced by a programmable Action button similar to the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra. It can be configured to perform various tasks, including starting the camera, turning on the flashlight, making a voice memo, or triggering a shortcut. The Dynamic Island and the Action buttons provide visual and tactile feedback.
The updated Camera
An updated 48-megapixel primary camera offers better low-light performance and a new 24-megapixel default image resolution, which improves over the previous 12-megapixel default and provides high-quality images at a manageable file size. The Main camera has a variety of focal length settings, including 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm, and there is a choice to take 48-megapixel HEIF photos rather than RAW images, which require less storage.
Now that portrait images are automatically taken whenever a human or a pet is in the frame or you tap to focus; you can edit the depth and focal point of an image after it has been taken, regardless of whether you used portrait mode. Sharper detail, more vibrant colours, and improved low-light performance are all features of the images. When seen in the Photos app, Night Mode is more transparent than before, and Smart HDR 5 captures subjects and backgrounds with more realistic skin tones, brighter highlights, richer mid-tones, and deeper shadows.
A new Ultrawide camera has been released that allows for more light. The iPhone 15 Pro features a 3x Telephoto lens that is standard, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 5x Telephoto lens that is improved and has a new tetraprism design. Apple unveiled a new optical image stabilisation technology for crisper photos with an autofocus 3D sensor-shift module.
Advanced GPU
Apple’s first 3-nanometer chip, the A17 Pro, was created on a new node. According to Apple, it features the most extensive GPU revamp in company history and offers up to 20% faster GPU performance than the A16. Up to 10% more performance from the CPU. It’s up to twice as quick as the new neural engine.
Effective Video Streaming
The iPhone can now find console games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 for the first time thanks to Apple’s addition of hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which also improves augmented reality apps. A dedicated AV1 decoder is available for more effective video streaming. The iPhone’s ability to connect to external storage and capture 4K 60fps ProRes video is powered by the A17 Pro.
The iPhone 15 Pro variants are the first smartphones to enable the Academy Color Encoding System used by filmmakers thanks to Apple’s addition of a Log encoding option to go along with this capability. The iPhone 15 Pro models will be able to capture 3D spatial video later this year, which can be seen on the Apple Vision Pro when it is released the following year.
Ultra Wideband Processor
A second-generation Ultra Wideband processor that Apple installed enables two iPhones to connect at a 3x longer distance. The new Precision Finding for Find My Friends function, which enables you to find your friends in crowded situations with Precision Finding, is powered by better connectivity. When used with a Wi-Fi 6E router, the bundled Wi-Fi 6E support provides access to 6GHz channels and up to 2x faster Wi-Fi speeds. Additionally, thread support has been introduced for potential Home app connections in the future.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be accepted at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, September 15, with the devices scheduled for sale on Friday, September 22.
The iPhone 15 Pro and Beyond
With the smaller iPhone 16 Pro adopting a 6.3-inch display and the more significant Pro Max adopting a 6.9-inch display, the “Pro” iPhone display sizes may be updated for the 2024 iPhone 16 range. Another choice was an even more expensive “Ultra” model. Solid-state buttons, a quicker A18 chip, Wi-Fi 7, and significant camera advancements are more probable upgrades.
