According to lawyers, over 40 men have come forward accusing the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F) of rape, sexual assault, and drugging. Mike Jeffries, who was charged with sex trafficking in October, is facing various civil cases alleging that he abused men under the premise of modeling for the fashion business. The latest claims date back to the 1990s, when Mr Jeffries first began working at A&F, and the alleged victims now include both firm workers and former models, according to the lawyers.
Mr Jeffries has disputed all previous charges made against him. A&F is also being sued for carelessness, with the cases alleging that it deliberately supported Mr Jeffries’ “heinous sexual crimes” with his British life partner, Matthew Smith. The firm, which also owns the Hollister brand, did not respond to calls for comment, but has previously stated that it was “appalled and disgusted” by Mr Jeffries’ alleged actions.
According to the latest allegations, some individuals were already A&F workers when they were sexually attacked, raising concerns about what efforts the firm did to protect employees and hold Mr Jeffries accountable while he was CEO and chairman from 1992 to 2014.
