The Honourable The Sharjah ruler and Supreme Council member, Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, hosted a group of foreign archaeology specialists at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre.
During the meeting, attended by Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Ambassador for the international nomination file for the Al Fayha Heritage Site, discussions revolved around the significant archaeological, historical, and diverse topographical features of the Mleiha region.
To guarantee adherence to the rules and regulations of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the emirate of Sharjah’s efforts to preserve archaeological sites, ongoing excavation activities, and non-interference and development within heritage areas were also discussed.
The Al Fayha mountain site, which records early human settlement in the region from the start of the Middle Stone Age to the Stone Age despite shifting climatic circumstances in the Arabian Peninsula, is regarded as an extraordinary example of the desert environment throughout the Stone Age. Human settlement has been continuous for 210,000 years, according to studies of the site’s historical and environmental layers.
After many investigations with academic experts and specialists, the emirate of Sharjah had already added four significant archaeological sites to the tentative list for UNESCO’s World Heritage. Among these sites was Mleiha in southeast Arabia, which dates back to the pre-Islamic era.
