Even after setting fire to Sir Keir Starmer’s residence, Roman Lavrynovych, who was convicted on Monday of conspiracy to commit arson, appeared to know as much about the prime minister as a bullet does about its victim.
His anonymous handler, identified only by the letters EL, dropped a hint in a message: “Look, you targeted the home of a very high-ranking person in Britain. I’ll send you money; you should leave the city.”
It was too late; Lavrynovych was seized within hours. The 22-year-old Ukrainian builder had been armed with a weapon designed to target the UK’s prime minister. But by whom? Our investigation revealed that the arson attack was simply one aspect of a larger campaign of sabotage, provocation, and deception that extended all the way to the Russian authorities.
We found proof that EL is a young Russian diplomat who has been trained in information warfare by spies and propagandists and is close to Moscow’s top echelons of authority. His name is Evgeny Lyukshin. He is 23 years old and the son of a senior officer.Even after setting fire to Sir Keir Starmer’s residence, Roman Lavrynovych, who was convicted on Monday of conspiracy to commit arson, appeared to know as much about the prime minister as a bullet does about its victim.
