Following Israel’s double strike on a hospital in Gaza that claimed the lives of at least 20 people, the UN has stated that “there needs to be justice” because, according to an initial Israeli military investigation, the strike had targeted a “camera positioned by Hamas.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called the incident “completely indefensible” and has been condemning it for killing five journalists and four medical personnel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) published their preliminary study later on Tuesday, pointing out a number of “gaps” that require more research.
It coincided with a day of widespread demonstrations by Israelis demanding that their government agree to a deal that would free the captives. At least one person was killed in the first strike at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Monday, and ten minutes later, a second strike struck the journalists and rescuers who were on the site.
Four medical personnel and five journalists from international media organizations, such as the Associated Press, Reuters, Al Jazeera, and Middle East Eye, were among the at least 20 persons murdered. This raises a lot of issues regarding the targeting of journalists, and it is imperative that all of these cases be looked into and the people involved held accountable.
