Launched in early August, the Dubai Mallathon brought together nearly 40,000 runners from nine retail centers before ending on Sunday. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and UAE Minister of Defense, introduced the citywide program, which turned malls into indoor training courses and became one of the biggest community sporting events in the emirate.
The month-long program added to Dubai’s increasing list of international accomplishments by setting a Guinness World Record for the most runners in a mall-run event. 1,392 runners of all ages and countries participated in the race during the closing event at Dubai Hills Mall, setting a new record. The Dubai Mallathon’s record-breaking attendance and community involvement were all praised by Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
According to him, the program demonstrates the leadership’s commitment to integrating sports into everyday life and fostering an environment that promotes the community’s physical and mental well-being.
Young people’s overwhelming engagement, which comprised the largest percentage of participants, confirms their critical role in the success of community projects and their significance in shaping our country’s present and future. In keeping with the UAE’s long-term strategy, we have a lot of faith in our young people to support community values and promote an active lifestyle,” Dr. Al Neyadi stated.
