On Wednesday morning, residents of Sharjah received a public safety alert on their cell phones warning of possible traffic jams near Expo Centre Sharjah, the site of today’s Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF).
Sharjah Police warn of potential traffic congestion on roads leading to the Sharjah Book Fair at Expo Centre Sharjah as the premier cultural event kicks off,” the notice, which was broadcast via the National Emergency Warning System (NEWS), stated. To maintain efficient traffic flow and everyone’s safety, it is recommended to choose alternate routes if the event is not your destination.
By late evening, there will probably be a significant traffic jam around the Tawoon, Al Nahda, and Al Khan exits for cars coming from Dubai via Al Ittihad Road. Al Taawun Street, the primary thoroughfare leading to Expo Center Sharjah, is where tailbacks are likely to extend. Al Wahda Street and Corniche Road traffic is also anticipated to rise since the surge of tourists may cause delays and diversions for locals traveling to the city center.
