Former Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce, President Donald Trump’s nominee for US deputy representative to the United Nations, has previously promoted a range of inflammatory and anti-Muslim claims, according to a review of her past commentary.
An analysis by CNN’s KFile of Bruce’s blog posts, columns, radio appearances, and social media activity dating back to the early 2000s found repeated use of demeaning language about Muslims. In several instances, she suggested that Muslim Americans needed to demonstrate their loyalty following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Other remarks criticised Muslim-majority countries that she would be expected to engage with in her potential UN role.
Many of the statements were originally published on Bruce’s personal blog between the early 2000s and late 2010s. Although the site is no longer active, the material has been preserved through the Internet Archive and by media watchdog organisations that track conservative commentary.
Bruce, who currently serves as the State Department’s chief spokesperson, was nominated for the senior diplomatic post in August. Her nomination was formally submitted to the Senate in September, and she is scheduled to appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for a confirmation hearing on Wednesday.
