As 23 People are Killed in the Kyiv Region, Ukraine Warns of a Scarcity of Interceptor Missiles

The Ukrainian Air Force claims that none of the 23 ballistic missiles that Russia fired toward Kyiv on Sunday night were intercepted due to a “serious shortage” of interceptor missiles. The second significant Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital in a week claimed at least 15 lives, according to officials. In the larger Kyiv area, eight more people perished. At this week’s NATO meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged partners to make “strong decisions” to give Kyiv air defences.

He said that the Ukrainian military had successfully intercepted drones and cruise missiles following the strikes, but not ballistic missiles. In a post on X, he claimed that the “massive Russian attack” on Sunday included 351 strike drones and 68 missiles. According to the air force, 326 drones and 37 missiles were shot down or silenced. Zelensky cautioned that as long as defensive Patriot missiles “remain in our allies’ stockpiles,” Moscow would keep attacking residential structures.

With deafening explosions and the boom of Ukraine’s air defenses in action, it was another terrifying night for residents of the city. On Monday morning, extensive damage was evident. The city has seen the partial fall of three sizable apartment buildings, some of which were struck directly by missiles.
