Hillary Clinton is testifying before a panel of the US House of Representatives examining the crimes of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The former Democratic Secretary of State and presidential candidate recently consented to testify before the House Oversight Committee, alongside her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Both have previously rejected requests to appear, claiming they were politically motivated. Their willingness to testify averted potential contempt of Congress actions against them.
Hillary Clinton has stated that she does not recall meeting or conversing with Epstein. Her spouse, who knew Epstein, has denied any culpability or knowledge of his misdeeds. Bill Clinton has stated that he severed relations with Epstein two decades ago and expressed remorse that he was ever acquainted with the financier, who died in 2019. He is due to give his own evidence on Friday.
In a recent BBC interview in Berlin, Germany, Hillary Clinton stated that the deposition was a Republican ploy to distract attention from Trump’s relationship with Epstein.”We have nothing to hide,” she explained. “We have continuously requested the complete release of these files. We believe sunlight is the finest disinfectant. She claimed she never saw Epstein, although she did meet his guilty associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, “on a few occasions”. In 2010, Maxwell attended the wedding of the couple’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, in New York. The couple’s recent decision that they would submit testimony after all was a change of their combative stance, and it came as a potential contempt vote loomed in the House.
