The chief Democrat on the congressional committee investigating Jeffrey Epstein has accused the US Justice Department of suppressing documents including allegations of sexual abuse of a minor leveled against President Donald Trump. Robert Garcia, a member of the House Oversight Committee, said he personally seen documents containing the allegation that had not been made public.
In response, the Justice Department stated that “NOTHING has been deleted” and that documents were withheld only if they were “duplicates, privileged, or part of an ongoing federal investigation”. Trump has continually denied any wrongdoing in the Epstein case and recently stated that he had been “totally exonerated”.
The Justice Department has previously stated that some of the papers contain “untrue and sensationalist claims against President Trump”. Abigail Jackson, a spokeswoman for the White House, “by releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, signing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and calling for more investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends, President Trump has done more for Epstein’s victims than anyone before him.”
Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, appears to have been pals with Trump for several years. According to Trump, they had a falling out in the early 2000s, two years before Epstein was jailed. The Justice Department has released millions of files detailing what the government investigations against Epstein revealed. The staged releases were sparked by an act approved by the president, who had previously opposed the distribution of the material.
