According to US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social post from yesterday night, the ceasefire between Iran, the US, and Israel, which was supposed to end on Wednesday, is at least still in effect. A “war of blockades” has broken out in the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial ships are being intercepted and seized by both sides using force, rather than actual fighting.
One of the most significant waterways on Earth is experiencing a highly volatile atmosphere. It would be foolish to wager against things getting completely out of hand. Meanwhile, the arrival of Iranian and American delegates for peace negotiations is still awaited by Islamabad.
The city is still partially blocked off, the signs are still up, and the hotel that was supposed to host the discussions remains deserted, awaiting the anticipated return of the high-level delegations.
But now that the excitement has subsided, the mood has shifted. No longer will there be rumours regarding the cargo on board the massive C-17 Globemaster transport planes that touched down at a neighbouring military airfield earlier this week or reports of press pools in distant Washington being ordered to report to the airport.
