Keith Wilson, an advocate for Alberta’s independence, believes the western Canadian province is unmatched. According to Wilson, the country’s economy is formidable due to its abundance of wealthy oil and gas deposits, a sizable agricultural sector, and a youthful and competent labour population. On October 19, the province will host a referendum in which citizens will have the choice to either vote to remain in Canada or to proceed with a formal, legally binding referendum on independence at a later time.
Even though it wasn’t a simple “stay or leave” decision, the vote is nonetheless regarded as one of the most important in recent Canadian history and a crucial test of the country’s unity. The question of whether Alberta would be wealthier if it gained independence has taken center stage in the discussion. Wilson’s response is in the affirmative. The economy of Alberta is distinct. is essentially distinct from the rest of Canada; we have the infrastructure, institutions, and people to succeed,” he claims. Separatists in Alberta have long said that the province has been undervalued by joining Canada and that it would save tens of billions of dollars if more of the oil and gas revenue were retained within its borders rather than shared with Ottawa.
