Similar explosions were reported in other Hizbollah strongholds on Wednesday, according to state-run media in Lebanon. On Wednesday, hundreds of people in the east were critically injured by exploding devices, and a medical source stated that fifteen of them were in critical condition.
Three martyrs fell after devices exploded in the town of Sohmor,” the state-run National News Agency reported. Fifteen people were injured after walkie-talkies exploded, a hospital source in the city of Baalbek told AFP.
According to a security source, the hands and stomach were the most common areas of injury. Hizbollah’s Al Manar TV claimed that walkie-talkies blew up, causing explosions in several parts of Lebanon.
The latest explosions occur while Lebanon remains shaken and incensed following the pager bombings on Tuesday, which seemed to be a sophisticated Israeli strike directed at Hizbollah members. Around 2,800 people were injured, and at least 12 people, including two children, were killed when hundreds of Hizbollah pagers detonated in various locations across Syria and Lebanon.
New information about the operation started to surface. The Hungary-based company produced the pagers, another company revealed on Wednesday.
According to an American official, Israel briefed the US following the attack, in which tiny amounts of explosives were surreptitiously placed within pagers. The speaker was not authorised to discuss the information publicly, so they spoke under the condition of anonymity.
