Indonesian batik, especially from the 1980s, when the fabric was made the national dress code for all states and formal events, was on display Thursday in Dubai.
The catwalk was also held because fashion designer Siti Nurhidayah was part of the delegation at the November 18–20 “Middle East Organic & Natural Halal Trade Expo Dubai” at the Dubai World Trade Centre. It was jointly hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Dubai and the Indonesian Ladies in Dubai, with Madame Neni Lesmana, wife of Consul General Denny Lesmana, serving as chairman.
Additionally, in front of visitors that included officials from the Diplomatic Spouses in Dubai, he emphasized the importance of Indonesian women to the G20 member’s ongoing development and strength: Women in Indonesia have important roles in many facets of society, including the home, social, cultural, educational, and even security spheres, rising to positions like general in the armed forces and police. Numerous Indonesian women have achieved success in a variety of disciplines.
Lesmana added that the fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri (2001–2004), Retno Marsudi, the Foreign Affairs minister from October 2014 to October 2024, and Puan Maharani, the current chairman of the Indonesian Parliament, who he called a “seasoned politician,” were among the empowered Indonesian women.
