It goes without saying that seasoned actor Anupam Kher is a priceless contribution to Indian film. But when Gujarati counterfeiters decided to put his image on fictitious Rs 500 notes valued at Rs 1.6 crore (Rs 16m), they increased his value.
The incident came to light after two unidentified guys used fictitious notes displaying Bollywood star Anupam Kher instead of Mahatma Gandhi to con an Ahmedabad bullion merchant.
An intriguing observation is that the notes are ‘Resole Bank of India’ rather than ‘Reserve Bank of India.’ Social media users have been sharing pictures of the phoney messages, with some expressing amazement at what happened and others finding it amusing.
One of the best performers in Indian cinema, Anupam Kher made his acting debut in the Mahesh Bhatt film “Saaransh.” He has portrayed a range of characters, including many highly regarded main or supporting parts.
Among his achievements are two National Film Awards. For his contributions to Indian film and the arts, the Government of India recognised him with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in 2016, and the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India, in 2004.
