The public parking lot in Sharjah will be free on Sunday, September 15, in honor of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
The seven-day paid public parking zones, which are marked by blue parking information signs and open Monday through Friday and on official holidays, are not covered by this exemption, according to Sharjah Municipality. The third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1444, is the Prophet’s birthday in most Islamic nations, including those in the Gulf.
Residents of the UAE will have a long December holiday following this one, as it is National Day. Monday and Tuesday are the dates of December 2 and 3, respectively. When combined with the Saturday-Sunday weekend, that makes for a four-day holiday.
In order to control the high demand for parking spaces in this important residential and commercial district, the Municipality of Sharjah announced on September 2 that all public parking around the Muwaileh commercial area would now be subject to charges throughout the week, including public holidays. The Public Parking Management of Sharjah Municipality has put up blue directional signs all over the place to let drivers know about the new hours and costs.
