Patel, a fervent supporter of President Donald Trump, was confirmed by the Senate by a slim 51-49 vote, with Democrats and moderate Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski voting against him.
Rejecting charges of partisan prejudice, Patel pledged to end “politicisation” within the FBI during his confirmation hearing.
