From adultery charges to major scandals, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives provides a glimpse into a side of Mormon life that differs significantly from the popular image. Set in suburban Utah, the TV series follows a group of Mormon women, most of whom rose to prominence on TikTok and became MomTok influencers, as they deal with scandals, marital breakdowns, and disagreements over everything from business projects to party invites.
But underlying the exciting plotlines lies a more complicated narrative about the shifting dynamics of a close-knit society. The Mormon women have been creating video online for the past five years, but they believe the notion of reality TV is still novel to them.
What began as a pastime has now evolved into a career, and the women openly discuss their earnings from reality TV and sponsor partnerships on the show. It is completely our job today, but we picked this, and we can all walk away any time if we don’t want to be part of it,” Jessi confides.
Whitney Leavitt notes that “naturally dynamics will change when there is more money and family involved, and some people will definitely become competitive,” but assures me that the group is still friends off camera.
