For purposefully poisoning thirty patients, twelve of whom died, a former anesthetist was sentenced to life in prison. After a four-month trial in the eastern city of Besanň, Frédéric Péchier, 53, was found guilty on Friday.
Péchier was revealed to have added substances like potassium chloride or adrenaline to patients’ infusion bags in one of the largest medical negligence lawsuits in French history.
During a routine tonsil operation in 2016, his youngest victim, a four-year-old child, survived two heart arrests. Eighty-nine was the oldest victim. You are a murderer, a poisoner, and Doctor Death. Last week, prosecutors stated, “You disgrace all doctors.” “You have turned this clinic into a graveyard.”
Patients experienced cardiac arrest or bleeding as a result of the chemicals Péchier introduced, necessitating immediate medical attention in the operating room.
This was frequently supplied by Péchier himself, who might then pretend to be the patient’s rescuer.
However, in 12 instances, the patient passed away because he was either unable to help or it was too late. The prosecution contended that Péchier’s actions were motivated by resentment towards other anesthetists.
