US President Donald Trump came down the Air Force’s stairs. Ahead of a crucial summit with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, one was welcomed with extravagance and fanfare in Beijing on Wednesday night.
The world’s superpowers are anticipated to talk about tariffs, technology competition, the Iranian conflict, and the United States’ ties with Taiwan during his two-day visit. As his military campaign in the Middle East comes under increasing scrutiny, Trump returns to a more assertive China than the one he visited in 2017.
The US and Israel’s war in Iran, which is still causing unrest in the world economy, caused the trip, which was originally planned for March, to be postponed. One of China’s top leaders, Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng, welcomed Trump on the red carpet.
After Trump was greeted by a lower-level official on his most recent visit, Beijing is interpreting the action as a sign of respect for the US president. Welcome, welcome, a warm welcome” was yelled by a brass band and flag-wavers bearing American and Chinese flags as the president gave his trademark fist pump to the sizable greeting party, which was arranged in tight, uniform rows by the dozen.
