As diplomatic efforts to end the crisis in Ukraine continue, officials claim the administration of US President Donald Trump is halting its offensive cyber activities against Russia. It is unclear how long the pause might stay, and the justification for the command has not been made public. The Department of Defense has refrained from commenting.
According to reports, the order was given prior to Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky getting into a heated argument on television at the White House on Friday. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion more than three years ago, Trump has significantly loosened American stance toward Moscow since taking office in an effort to negotiate an end to the conflict.
He declared preparations to meet with his counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, and seemed to repeat Moscow’s rationale for initiating the conflict. Additionally, the United States has supported Russia in recent war-related UN votes. Trump, however, has called Zelensky a tyrant and charged him with “gambling with World War Three” during Friday’s explosion in the White House.
