Elon Musk, a billionaire, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a venture capitalist, have been named by Donald Trump to head a new office that will fire employees and drastically reduce government spending.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Trump claimed that the men who might be in charge of an Office of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, after Musk’s favorite meme, “will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies — Essential to the ‘Save America Movement.’?”
“The system and everyone involved in government waste, which is a large number of people, will be rocked by this!” Musk went on. Trump made a comparison between the office and the Manhattan Project, which created the first atomic bombs ever.
Earlier this year, the president-elect hinted at Musk’s potential involvement in his government. On October 27, Musk declared at Trump’s rally in Madison Square Garden that he plans to cut “at least $2 trillion,” or about one-third, from the country’s budget.
The richest man in the world has already contributed tens of millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign, using his own powerful social media network to promote conspiracy theories and right-wing influencers to an audience of over 200 million people.
